Hi Mark,

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your advice not to frame men as “bad.” I assure you, that is not my intent. I frame our culture of manhood as toxic, dangerous and destructive. Our Man Box culture, the enforcement of a narrow definition of what a real man is supposed to be, bullies and brutalizes men into hiding their authentic selves and leaves them sleep walking through a world of disconnection.
The enforcement of Man Box conformity results in intense widespread policing and shame for boys and men, starting at age four. If you got through America’s culture of manhood unscathed, you should count yourself a lucky man. That said, men listening to each other and sharing our pain and shame is a direct path to our healing. Pretending everything is fine on the other hand, is what’s been killing us.
