Trump’s Winning Plan is to Let Us Die
Having utterly missed the window to protect us, Trump is politically weaponizing the pandemic.
It’s no surprise the next step for Trump would be to attack the stay at home mandates. He‘s decided he can win the coming election by undermining Democratic governors stay at home orders.
Trump wasted months calling coronavirus “a hoax,” utterly failing to use the power of the federal government to create the kind of massive testing and tracing effort used successfully by nations like Germany and South Korea. He has withheld PPE and ventilators from so called “blue states.” He has lied about fake cures. Now he is encouraging protests against stay home orders.
Because Republicans have consistently parroted his lies, they can not now reverse course and support massive testing and tracing, mandate stay at home orders, match what nations like Germany and South Korea have done to defeat the coronavirus.
So, Trump’s GOP is left with one path forward. To let the Coronavirus wash over the American public. To let surrogates compare it to the flu. To use Republican governors in states like Florida and Georgia to reopen their states, allowing the virus to run it’s natural course. This is the game plan now. To create herd immunity by letting the virus run wild. It smacks of rural white nationalist hate for big cities. It smacks of eugenics, let the weak die and the strong survive. It’s pure Trump.
How utterly without empathy or decency does one have to be to unleash genocide on this scale? Trump’s most extreme supporters would like to believe it will only savage their political adversaries’ states. They are wrong. Infection rates in rural areas will skyrocket in the next few weeks.
Trump and his GOP enablers are doing the only thing they know how to do. They will double down and politically weaponize a pandemic, because for them, it’s the only path left open after utterly missing the window to protect us. So now, they will set us against each other, yet again.
We will all have to fight to survive until November. If Democrats are lucky enough to win the White House back. If we can dislodge McConnell from his draconian control of the Senate, Democrats will be left with a nation that is once again gutted and in economic ruins.
I heard it said many times that Trump is leading a death cult. I’ve absolutely come to believe it.
But, Americans are rising to the challenge everywhere. We have been shocked out of our sleep walking complacency. We no longer take anything for granted. Not our freedoms. Not our fellow human beings. We know we are all in this together. We are fully awake, now and angry.
The battle for our nation’s soul and our collective humanity is here. The coming election will be a pitched battle between GOP voter suppression and a rising blue wave, between Trump’s racism and our vast diversity, between white nationalist lies and our children’s futures. It’s up to us now.

It’s 5:30 in the morning in New York City. We are fighting the battle against the coronavirus here and winning. So, do what we are doing. Shelter at home and protect first responders and health care heroes. Have faith. Love your fellow Americans. Be safe. And fight like hell to end Trump’s presidency with the next election.
